Why blog? I suppose there are many reasons, but there are three that interest me. The first is that I would like to be able to look back at my experiences, and a blog provides an easy format for recording and viewing them.
The second reason for this blog, at the risk of sounding like another self-centered teenager, is for other people to read. I believe that there are a handful of people who will enjoy popping on every so often to read about what’s going on in my life, especially since I am heading into a relatively action-packed chapter of my existence (that would be college).
The third and final reason that I am establishing this blog is perhaps the most important. It is my hope that it will be a great tool for personal growth. You see, my natural inclination is to develop a routine of activities and friends and get really good at maintaining that routine. For the latter half of high school, it was 1) Wake up and go to school 2) Learn at school 3) Go home and do homework after a quick snack, and 4) Play the guitar or watch TV before going to bed (if time allowed). I’m glad for the benefits this lifestyle has brought me, but I hope to mix it up a little bit in college. I’d like to expand my horizons and experience some new things—nothing bad, just new. At the same time, I know that once I’m there it will feel much easier to just get comfortable and follow the path of least resistance. That’s the real reason for this blog. My intention is that the blog will give me a tangible motivation to go out and live some stories.

That is what you should expect to find here in the future. I don’t plan on cluttering the blog with accounts of what I had for lunch or observation of the weather. Worthwhile stories are the goal, and quality is definitely the priority here. I don’t expect to post too often—probably once or twice a month. I may end up putting up mundane updates every now and then, but I’m hoping that such posts will be the exception rather than the rule. I would hate for this to turn into a blahg with a bunch of filler in between a few neat stories.
